Professor Says!
Very often people do not understand the difference between a nation and nationalism. We Pakistanis are a nation but lack the national identity. Since the day of independence we have been chanting a slogan that we are Pakistanis. But we never promoted the fundamental concept of a nation which is based on nationalism. Look around and see how much divided we are? By name Muslims, by cast Malik, Mirza, Raja, Choudry, Butt etc, and by origin Sindhis, Balouchis, Pakhtoons, Punjabis and Mohajirs. Where do we Pakistanis stand? We believe in God but strongly believe in cast as well. We have a common green passport but feel proud of our so called racial superiority and status in the society. Apparently, this behavior seems charming but deeply it creates problems. It destabilizes the foundations of a nation. And if there is no nationalism there is no unity. Without unity there will be no progress. Every one of us should not forget that without progress a nation never survives. Unfortunately, we have skipped the first lesson as a nation. Let us come back to the first lesson, to the foundation, obviously nationalism. Let us learn the lesson by heart and put all our efforts to make this foundation so strong that our future generations would not blame us and live with pride, honor and a history that everyone would be proud of.  If we do not promote and spread the fundamentals of our national hood and transfer it to our new generation, we cannot and will not stand by the civilized nations of the world. Being a courageous and alive nation, we will be undefeated. Nationalism teaches us to stand united, to face the problems collectively and to build up the country and community jointly. Most of us earn and survive but some of us earn more than their needs. If they help who are lesser fortunate with their extra resources, the ever widening gap between most and some can be made lesser. Simple good deeds can change the direction of a nation. Take the example of these Pakistanis who have provided assistance to a deserving Pakistani youth.
I admire these outstanding Pakistanis from Eastern region who came forward on our appeal and provided funds to assist a deserving student’s fee for five months.
On behalf of entire ContactPakistan.com team and its 185000 members, I salute them and would like to tell them that “You are the real Pakistani”  You did not just talked and promised to do some thing but you did it. May Allah reward you for such a humane gesture. Being Muslims this is our religious teaching and being Pakistanis this is our obligation.
We should not forget that the first name and the last word in the history of nation is "NATIONALISM".
Lets be united because together we can make the difference!
We always welcome your
comments and suggestions.

FAISALABAD
Faisalabad is the third largest city of Pakistan after Karachi and Lahore located in the province of Punjab. Untill 1979 Faisalabad was formerly called Lyallpur, after Sir Charles James Lyall, lieutenant governor of the Punjab.  It became headquarters of the Lower Chenab colony and in 1898 was incorporated as a municipality.  It is also known as " Little Manchester " because of its textile mills, it has grown rapidly in just a century and is famed as the University of Punjab's Agriculture campus (established 1961).
The city was founded in 1890 and offers little of interest to the tourist. Sir Charles James Lyalllaid  out the town in the shape of the British flag: a rectangle with across and two diagonals; a clock tower stands at the crossroads. Its most distinguished feature (now indescribably filthy) is the town center which was laid out patriotically by Sir James Lyall in the shape of the British flag----a rectangle containing a cross and two diagonals. At the center is a clock tower where eight roads meet. These eight segments form the town's main bazaars

KNOW MORE ABOUT ASTHMA
Asthma is a chronic lung disease that makes breathing difficult. It causes symptoms such as shortness of breath, wheezing, cough, and chest tightness (some people get all of these symptoms, while others may only have cough, for example). It is the result of some known (allergens, occupational exposures) and some unknown factors. The following information is provided to answer commonly asked questions about Asthma.

What are the symptoms of asthma?

Typical symptoms include chest tightness, shortness of breath, coughing, and wheezing. The symptoms can be brought on by certain exposures (irritants, allergens, exercise), or they can be persistent.

How is asthma diagnosed?

The diagnosis is best done by a visit to the doctor. The diagnosis is based on typical symptoms, the patient’s medical and family history, physical exam, and often with breathing tests.

What causes asthma?

Good question! We know that allergies (mostly to things in the air like pollens and dust mites) contribute to the asthma of many children and young to middle-aged adults. But there are many people who have asthma and no allergies at all. Although we are not sure of all the fundamental causes of asthma, we believe that both environmental and genetic factors play a role in the inflammation of the airways typical of asthma.

Is asthma a serious disease?

Yes, it can be. Asthma is unique because the intensity of disease varies widely. Asthma can be merely an inconvenience in one person, and it can be a potentially life-threatening disease in another. A given individual may fall anywhere between these two points. Also, an asthmatic may move up or down this scale during the course of a lifetime - some lucky patients going into remission as they age. The overwhelming majority of asthmatics can be effectively be treated with medications (as well as anti-allergy measures) with minimal, if any, side effects.

What different kinds of asthma medications are used?

There are many different types and brands of asthma drugs on the market. We believe it is helpful to classify the drugs to help understand how they are used. The two main types are bronchodilators and anti-inflammatory medications (steroid/cortisone-type medications and cromolyn-type medications). Two other types of medications - Leukotriene modifiers (e.g., AccolateÔ and ZyfloÔ) and phosphodiesterase inhibitors (e.g. theophylline) - are difficult to classify since they seem to have properties of both bronchodilators and anti-inflammatory medications.

BACK PAINS
Dr. Rao Khan, Riyadh

First of all let me give you some general information as follows, regarding Backache.
Backache is generally a gripping pain near the inward curve of the back above the base of the spine and it affects about 80 percent of the population at some time in their lives.

Causes:-
Strains are especially common when overworked or under exercised back muscles perform beyond their normal capacity. The muscles will then contract or go into spasm and become a tight mass of tissue. The body transmits a sharp pain signal as nearby muscles, tighten in an effort to protect strained muscle to prevent further damages. Strain of back muscle can be due to sports, sudden jerking motion or reflex actions like sneezing. Over weight is leading factor in backache. Pregnancy can produce back pain because of weight of the fetus. Menstruation may also cause back discomfort. Congenital malformation can lead to backache. Most parts of your body shrink or stiffen as your age, including the rubbery disk that cushions each vertebra. When stressed, a disk may break, it does not really slip. If a broken piece presses a nearby nerve, you suffer what is known as sciatica. Sciatica is back pain that shoots down the leg. Surgery sometimes cures a slipped disk. So see an orthopedist when sciatica is intolerable. As we age, our bones tends to become gradually thinner and more fragile, this condition is osteoporosis and is painless. When osteoporosis weakness a vertebra to the point when it can’t support your body weight, the vertebra collapses, called a compression fracture. This condition is painful but it heals. I suspect most low back pain in the elderly is simple muscle strain.

Symptoms:-
Backache can appear abruptly after physical activity or may develop slowly. The pain may feel like a sharp jab or a dull ache. The pain some times becomes so piercing that a person who is bending over, may not be able to straighten up. Most muscular back pain disappear with in a week or two of their onset while some will last one or two months. Pain may recur unless preventive measures are taken.

Diagnosis:-

Prolong back pain (lasting for more than two weeks) should be brought to the attention of a physician, who will check for underlying disorders. An X-Ray study may reveal adverse changes in the spine.

Treatment:
If there are no apparent physical causes for the backache, physicians usually recommend an exercise program to strengthen weak muscles. Losing weight can also relieve pressure on the back.
For immediate treatment, using a heating pads or better yet, ice at the site of the pain will usually reduce soreness. Analgesic creams containing methyl salicylate or a similar ingredient produces a soothing warm sensation. Muscle relaxant and anti-inflammatory drugs may also be prescribed. When backache is the result of some deformity or damage to the disk, surgery may be necessary to correct the problem. Braces or correst some times improve the condition. Almost all types of musculoskeletal backache respond well to rest, which allows muscles to relax and inflammation to subside. Time is often the best healer.

Prevention:-
Walking upright is a balancing act. Good posture when awake and asleep, relieves tension on the spinal column. A semi firm mattress (neither hard nor soft) is recommended because it conforms to the arch of the back and maintains spinal alignment. Bending at the knees rather than from the waist, when lifting large, heavy objects places the stress on the legs and helps prevent back injury. One should avoid looking down for long period of time while seated at a desk and avoid watching T. V. with the chin on the chest. If the patient has been suffering from back pain since few years which has not responded to symptomatic treatment, rest and exercises, I would suggest you ask your orthopedic surgeon for C T scan or M R I, which may reveal musculoskeletal deformity, same should be treated accordingly. If scan is normal than please follow the recommended preventive measures and treatment mention above.
