FLU - Common Cold
If you have ever had the flu, there is
little chance you would mistake it for a common cold. Although
a cold often has some flu-like symptoms -- such as a sore
throat or cough -- the fever, muscle aches, headaches and
chills of the flu are unmistakable.
If you do get a cold or flu, you have to let it run its
course. Drink lots of fluid and get plenty of rest. If you
have a fever, take acetaminophen (Panadol). To help control a
runny nose or nasal congestion, try an antihistamine or a
decongestant. Call your Doctor, though, if you have serious
difficulty breathing, or if you have any of these symptoms for
more than a week:
- Nasal congestion and
discharge of yellow, thick mucus
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Fever
- Facial pain

How does
breast-feeding benefit a baby?
Breastfeeding
benefits everyone. Your baby gets superior nutrition,
resistance to infections and is less likely to develop
allergies. Breastfed babies have fewer stomach upsets and
almost never have constipation. Breastfeeding contributes to
proper jaw and mouth development. Breastfed infants tend to
have fewer incidences of cavities and need fewer orthodontic
corrections later in life. Breastfeeding becomes convenient
when a mother is traveling with her baby. Overall, breast milk
is nature's best food for young babies.
Breastfeeding's protection from illness is most evident during
a baby's first six months, but remains in effect as long as
the child is nursing and beyond. The breastfed infant also
benefits emotionally. Most breastfed babies cry less because
they are held more.
How does
breast-feeding benefit the mother?
Mothers who breastfeed usually lose weight more easily than
mothers who feed their babies formula. Also, the baby's
sucking causes a mother's uterus to contract and reduces the
flow of blood after delivery. Mothers who breastfeed are less
likely to develop breast cancer. The hormones a mother's body
releases when she breastfeeds produces feelings of warmth,
love and calmness. They help a mother to relax.
Gestational Diabetes
Gestational diabetes is diabetes that develops during
pregnancy. It is managed with diet, and possibly insulin, and
disappears after delivery. All women should be checked for
diabetes in the sixth month of pregnancy (weeks 24-28). If
gestational diabetes is diagnosed, your doctor will help you
manage it with diet and possibly insulin.
• Approximately 2 to 3 percent of all women who become
pregnant develop gestational diabetes.
• Gestational diabetes is more likely to occur in women who
are overweight and/or older.
• Gestational diabetes is much more common in African
American, Hispanic and American Indian women.
• About 35 percent of women who develop gestational diabetes
will later develop Type 2 diabetes. Maintaining a healthy body
weight decreases the risk.

encouragement is fuel for us. We promise to get better than

Unfortunately we
are losing 481 community members who joined our
community during the past four years but somehow did not prefer to share their required
personal information with one of world's largest community
center for Pakistanis. To achieve what we plan for all of us,
it is must that we have accurate and complete information of
our members. We regret but all such records are now removed.
But guess what, we are still the largest community welfare
organization for Pakistanis in KSA and The Middle East. Those who have left us can
always join us by registering for the membership by providing
required information. They are our
brothers and sisters and perhaps need some more time to have the
confidence on an organization that is providing all these
services since 1998 to its members worldwide. Anyway we had
over 200 new members in just last 15 days!
www.PakFora.com
is up and waiting for all of you to start discussing your
common problems and issues. The concept of our platform is not
to start controversial debates and waste time and gain nothing
out of it. It is a platform to debate on healthy subjects. For
instance members are discussing under Karachi forum if it is
the right time to invest in Pakistani stocks. Another
discussion under I.T is about the best firewall. Please spend
time for positive participation, time spent for resolving our
day to day issues is call of the time. So do visit, register
and join forums of your native cities or common profession.
We
have few hundred doctors who are our members. We are in search
of Child specialist doctors to help the community by answering
their questions. We are sure there are number of Pediatricians
who are part of our community who would love to come forward
to help their own people. It may take few hours a month,
sitting in the comforts of your home and helping your
community. If you think you can take this volunteer job then
please write to

I have booked for the financial seminar
since last two months. Are you sure it would happen? Azhar
Naveed, Riyadh
This seminar is offered by an international bank to our
male and female members on one simple condition. Each event
would have at least 100 members from our community. Note that
this professional seminar which would have cost us not less
than SR:120 per person is offered free of any charge by the
bank. We guess it is a fair deal. We still lack the required
count. As soon as we reach to requested target inshaAllah a
mega seminar in each of the major city will be offered,
followed by grand dinner.
Number of Emails asking why Embassy newsletter is not updated.
Please don't ask us. When ever we get the latest issue, it
is posted on site the same day perhaps same hour. Number of
requests to embassy have failed to get any answer on this
issue.
What is this, you offer a coupon and a participating
business refuses to accept it? We went to this restaurant in
Riyadh but waiter refused to even recognize coupon? Please
realize that we do not like to get embarrassed. Hope you would
do some thing about it? Name to be withheld
Oops - Did you check the coupon itself? Some of the
businesses that have branches across the kingdom are only
offering discount in one specific branch. Such branch and
address appears on the coupon. So next time please be careful,
not all the businesses would understand how much your
participation can increase their revenue. You need to be more
careful. Sorry for the embarrassing situation, we can feel it
and are sorry for this confusion. |

Rahim Yar Khan
|
Rahim Yar Khan district is located in
Punjab. It was declared as a separate administration
district in 1943. The district derives its name from
its headquarters Rahim Yar Khan.
The previous name of this district was Naushehra which was
built in 1875 by Fazal Elahi Halani on the ruins of the
ancient Pul-Wadda during the Sumra rule in Sindh. Later
Nawab Sadiq Khan-IV of
Bahawalpur renamed it after his son Rahim Yar Khan.
Rahim
Yar Khan is bounded on the north by Muzaffargarh
district, on the east by Bahawalpur district, on the
south by Jasilmir (India)
and Ghotki district of Sindh province and on the west by
Rajanpur district.
The
total area of the district is 11,880 square kilometers.
The district comprises four Tehsils namely Rahim Yar
Khan, Sadiqabad, Liaquatpur and Khanpur. There are
three municipal committees and five town committees in
the district.
Bhong Mosque
The late Rais Ghazi Mohammad, the landlord of a large estate,
began this project in 1932 in
Bhong
village, the most important of the scattered villages on
his vast property.
The mosque was to be the most glorious building in his palace
compound which also included a smaller mosque, a madrasa
and rooms for students.
The work of specialists gathered from all over
Pakistan and India (master masons and craftsmen from
Rajasthan, calligraphers and painters from Karachi), the
compound was designed and constructed over a period of
nearly 50 years.
Broadly eclectic in their use of sources, the builders
borrowed stylistic elements from nearby
Lahore,
as well as Iran, Spain and Turkey, and combined them
with Western colonial elements of the 1940s.
Materials and crafts used range from the traditional (teak,
ivory, marble, coloured glass, onyx, glazed tile work,
fresco, mirror work, gilded tracery, ceramic,
calligraphic work and inlay) to the modern and synthetic
(marbleised industrial tile, artificial stone facing,
terrazzo, coloured cement tile and wrought iron). Only
traditional materials were used in the mosque interiors.
In the words of the jury: "Bhong enshrines and
epitomises the popular taste in
Pakistan with all its vigour, pride, tension and
sentiment.
Its use, and misuse, of signs and symbols expresses
appropriate growing pains of an architecture in
transition."
Flora
The
flora of the district characterizes two major ecological
divisions, northern and southern. The botanical life
found in the northern half is like that of the rest of
the irrigated tracts at central
Punjab. The human interference in the form of irrigation network
has greatly damaged the natural environment. Increases
in cultivation, waterlogged areas, and salinity have
badly hurt plant life. Because of the increase of
salinity at the surface, only salt resistant plants can
survive in most of the area. The southern half of the
district, characterized by sand dunes, is mostly
barren. The exception is in the rainy season when
multitudes of ephemeral plants come up and transform the
bare land into a lush green carpet. These ephemeral
plants complete their life cycles before the summer heat
arrives, leaving the land bare and dry.
Fauna
The arid land, generally referred to as the Cholistan desert,
has a lot of wild life. Wild cats, the Chinkara deer, a
variety of pigs, jackals, foxes, badgers, porcupines,
squirrels, gerbils, wild rats, mongeese, poisonous
snakes, hog deer, blue bulls, ravine deer, sand grouse,
wild lizards, wild egrets are among many other creatures
are found in the district.
Weather
The
climate of the district is hot and dry in the summer and
cold and dry in the winter. The summer season is
comparatively longer. It starts in April and continues
until October. The winter season goes from November to
March. However, the month of March and November are
pleasant. Dust storms are frequent during the summer
season. The average rain fall is about 100 millimeters.
Agriculture
The
major crops in the district are cotton, sugarcane, and
wheat. Most of the orchards are comprised of mangoes
and citrus.
Industries, Trade, and Trade Centers
The
major industries of the district are textile, cotton
ginning and pressing, sugar, cottonseed oil, edible oil,
soap, beverage making, agricultural implement
manufacturing, and fertilizer manufacturing.
Cottage
industry includes ginning, pottery/clay products,
electric desert cooler, agricultural machinery,
handicrafts, and embroidery.
Population
The total population of Rahim Yar Khan district was 3,141,053
in 1998. 19.6 percent of the total population lives in
urban areas.
Mother Tongue
Saraiki
is the predominant language being spoken in the
district. 62.6 percent of the population speaks it.
Punjabi and Urdu are spoken by 27.3 and 2.9 percent
respectively. Sindhi is spoken by 2.0 percent. The
rest of the population speaks Pushto, Balochi, Bravi,
and Dari.
Literacy
In
1998, 33.1 percent of the population was reported as
being able to read at least one language. This was up
from 20 percent in 1981. In urban areas, 65.0 percent
of males and 48.4 percent of women were able to read.
In rural areas, 37.9 percent of males, and 14.9 percent
of females were able to read. |
