Even today, some species of animals are disappearing or area about to. The reasons for this can be explained, but in prehistory it is all based on the investigations of scientists. By looking at fossils they can speculate on the reasons for the disappearance of prehistoric animals. Changes in climate probably had a lot to do with it. Also, during the Ice Ages, the area of inhabitable land decreased, and thus became over-populated. Therefore, there were more animals trying to survive on the same amount of food. The best adapted to this situation and outlasted the others. The size of these animals is also significant. Large animals need to cover large areas in order to find enough food to survive, But this they could not do. Also we cannot ignore the arrival of enemies who were better equipped. This is how marsupials disappeared from Europe, Asia, Africa and North America, wiped out by larger predators, such as lions, wolves, panthers and tigers, who were able to catch them easily and eat them. The predator outlived his prey. Nowadays, elephants, hippopotamuses are becoming scarce because they have lost their living space and food supplies, mainly because human beings are taking over land the animals once used.
