RIYADH, Nov. 7, 2000 With the city dart aficionados going into
action again, the Spice Boys I, tagged as the top team, clinched their first victory over
the Ace Power Horse 8-7 towards the end of their double round clash in the Class-A
division as the Power Darts 2000 got off to a flying start at the Sheraton Riyadh Hotel
and Towers bowling alley.
Trailing by two points (2-4), Ace pair Flor Almoite and Banny Alagar managed to tie the
score at 4-all in the first double match but they failed to deny the more determined
victors who went ahead in the last two doubles. Here, Russel Inabangan of Spice produced
the days out shot recorded at 107 and walked away with special gift from Power Horse
energy drink. In the other encounter in the same category, El Seif I pocketed a clean
decisive 10-5 win against the new Spice Boys XI.
Of the Class-B, Intruders Strike known as Ilocano boys and the Class-B champion of the
recently concluded Fila Dart2k, made a winning debut by overpowering the rookie team, Aero
from the Al Salam aircraft. They completed easy 12-points leaving only 3 for Aero, the
underdog. The Conquerors, also a new side in this tourney, defeated the Saudi Ericsson
A2618s for a lopsided 14-1 victory. Only Ravenal Arce for the losers succeeded a
satisfactory 43 finish through S11-D16 combination over Manny Iglesia in the fifth singles
match to give his side a single output.
In the same division, the second line up of Saudi Ericsson (SE) won a breath-taking
decision match against the dreadful KSU Kamandag with a 9-6 final record. The relaxed SE
darters suffered three straight losses in the first three singles but regained composure
after Ruben Espanola won a thrilling encounter against Henry Dela Cruz. However, the more
toned-up KSU darters led by veteran Edgar Andayran maintained the lead ending the singles
match at 4-2.
SE last double pair, Noli Jaraplasan and Vic Gimpisao enlivened the hope after setting
aside their opponents, Edgar Andayran and Alex Apante to bring the score even at 6-all in
the last double match. With only 134 points left, Gimpisao produced 94 points
(S20-S20-T18), setting an excellent outing of D20 enroute to an easy finish by Jaraplasan.
A 24 out shot by John Damaso capped the days game for SE from an insignificant last
throw of their fellow team player, Delfin Durante in the deciding battle.
The event, second in series, contested by eleven teams, is organized by the Expat Darters
