I love animals and that is the reason that I have choosen this theme "WildLife in Danger". I can not ignore the fact that most of the beautiful animals are decreasing every day. To write this essay I have spent some time to doing research. I have learned more about this topic by reading articals in magazines and surfing on the Internet. To my surprise I have found that up to 100 species become extinct every day. Scientists estimate that the total number of species lost each year may climb to 40,000 by the year 2000, a rate far exceeding any in the last 65 million years.

Around the world more than 3,500 protected areas exist in the form of parks, wildlife refuges and other reserves. These area cover a total of about 2 million square miles (5 million square km, or 3% of our total land area.).

Today , more than 200 animal species in the United State are classified as endangered . More than 1,000 animal species are endangered worldwide. Scientists have cataloged more than one and

one-half million of the species that exist on Earth today. By some recent estimates, at lest 20 times that species inhabit the planet.

I have learned for the causes that have put the life of the rare animals in danger. To start with the causes, one major cause is the change in the forest environment. People always want more farm land, so they chop down trees. Have you seen a beautiful animal like a panda? (Figure 1). Well look at what we’ve done to our animal friend the panda bear by chopping the bamboo. Pandas eat bamboo that people use to make paper. If we don’t waste paper and recycle it we can save this lovely creature. Panda bears live in China. It is as large as a black bear. Adult pandas can grow to be 5-6 feet high. They weigh about 276 pounds and males weighing 10% to 20% more than females. Their life span is more than 25 years. People clear up jungles and forests for ,as we know , farm land. The big Elephants (Figure 2) are also our friends and we must help them too. Elephants roam in the jungle, that then turns into farm land. People should reuse the land which the they first cleared . People build factories in wrong places. They build factories near rivers and streams . Beautiful fish like a rare goldfish live in the rivers . The factories produce chemical waste that is thrown into the rivers and the fish die!

I think that they should build factories outside the forests and also not near river banks. They should recycle paper and tell the government to protect the forests so poor animals lives are saved from extinction. I have also discovered that hunters are hunting and killing animals to make money. They should also be stopped hunting for fur or hides. I would hate to see a mother tiger feed its young (Figure 3), then BANG, mother is dead and babies are on their own. I would also hate to see to continued destruction of Elephant and Deer.

This has to stop!

I wish I could write a letter to all the Governments to stop this before its too late.
